Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Kaduna Federal University.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled ‘President Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia’.

This appointment follows Tinubu’s recent directive, issued 33 days earlier, for the Federal Government to take over Nok University, Kachia, and convert it into a federal institution. The school was subsequently renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

Alongside Bishop Kukah, the President appointed key officials for the university, including Prof. Qurix Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as Librarian.

Additionally, Tinubu approved the appointment of Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East) as members of the university’s Governing Council.

According to the statement, the appointees were selected based on their outstanding careers, leadership experience, and commitment to enhancing education in Nigeria.

President Tinubu urged the new leadership to leverage their expertise in transforming the university into a center for academic excellence and research, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also encouraged them to provide visionary leadership and establish a strong foundation as the institution prepares to admit its first students in September 2025.
