President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the nomination of four key figures to the Governing Council of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), strengthening the board’s leadership and ensuring continuity in its regulatory role within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the appointments, noting that they were made to fill existing vacancies left by previous institutional representatives.
Among the newly appointed members are Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, representing the National Insurance Commission, and Engr. Wole Ogunsanya, who will serve as the nominee from the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN). Also appointed are Sam Onyechi, representing the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum, and Barrister Owei Oyanbo from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
President Tinubu urged the new council members to bring their wealth of experience to bear in advancing the board’s mandate of promoting local content development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
“The nominations arose from the exit of previous institutional representatives from the Governing Council,” the statement read, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the NCDMB’s operational framework.
The NCDMB Governing Council, established under Section 69 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, comprises representatives from key institutions, including the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), PETAN, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF), and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
As Nigeria continues its drive for enhanced local participation in the oil and gas sector, these appointments signal a renewed push for policy implementation and regulatory oversight aimed at deepening indigenous involvement in the industry.
