President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, the Galadiman Kano and a revered figure in the Kano Emirate Council.
Alhaji Sanusi, who held the esteemed title since 1959, passed away at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by numerous children and grandchildren, including Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the late Galadima as a pillar of the traditional institution, whose invaluable contributions to the Kano Emirate’s growth and stability will be remembered for generations.
The President extended heartfelt condolences to the Kano State government, the Emirate Council, and the bereaved family, praying that Allah grants him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and provides comfort to his loved ones.
Similarly, former President Buhari, in a statement through his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, expressed profound grief over Sanusi’s passing, recognizing him as a stabilizing force in Kano’s evolving social landscape.
“The Galadima served as a vital link between the past and the present, embodying institutional memory and traditions crucial to the governance and administration of the royal palace. His passing is a great loss to Kano and the nation,” Buhari stated.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Kano Emirate Council, and the people of Kano State, praying for the repose of the elder statesman’s soul.
