Tinubu Driving Rapid Medical Industrialisation, Says Information Minister

KATSINA, July 24, 2025 – The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is accelerating medical industrialisation in Nigeria at an unprecedented pace, highlighting ongoing reforms and infrastructural development in the healthcare sector.

Idris made this assertion on Thursday while commissioning a newly built Clinical Oncology Cancer Centre at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina. He emphasized that the facility is a testament to the current administration’s resolve to improve Nigeria’s healthcare system and reduce medical tourism by equipping local institutions to handle complex conditions such as cancer.

According to the minister, the commissioning of the oncology centre aligns with President Tinubu’s broader health sector reforms, aimed at modernizing infrastructure, investing in medical technologies, and fostering public-private partnerships for sustainable growth. He said the administration’s focus is not only on service delivery but also on building the capacity for local production of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and technologies — a core aspect of medical industrialisation.

Idris noted that the federal government is also intensifying training, research, and technology integration across tertiary health institutions nationwide, with a view to positioning Nigeria as a regional hub for medical innovation and excellence.

“This centre is more than a structure — it is part of a larger, deliberate plan to make healthcare more accessible, more affordable, and technologically advanced for Nigerians,” the minister stated.

Healthcare stakeholders and residents present at the ceremony lauded the initiative, describing it as a major leap forward in Nigeria’s fight against cancer and chronic diseases.
