Tinubu Grants Immigration Boss Nandap Tenure Extension Until 2026

In a significant development for the nation’s immigration authority, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap’s tenure at the helm of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) until December 31, 2026.
According to an official statement released today by the Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension comes in recognition of CG Nandap’s exceptional performance since assuming office on March 1, 2024. Her initial appointment was scheduled to conclude on August 31, 2025.
The statement highlighted President Tinubu’s satisfaction with Nandap’s leadership, which has reportedly brought about “significant advancements” in the Service’s core operations, particularly in the areas of border management, immigration process modernization, and enhanced national security measures.
“The President commended the Comptroller-General for her exemplary leadership and urged her to continue dedicating herself to the Service’s strategic priorities, which align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” read part of the statement.
CG Nandap, a career immigration officer who joined the Service on October 9, 1989, now has an additional 16 months to implement her vision for the NIS. Sources within the immigration headquarters in Abuja indicate that her leadership has brought renewed vigor to the Service’s operations across the country’s numerous border points.
In the statement, President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the NIS in its crucial role of safeguarding Nigeria’s borders while ensuring safe and legal migration processes for citizens and visitors alike.
The extension is viewed by security analysts as a vote of confidence in Nandap’s capabilities at a time when border security remains a critical component of the nation’s overall security architecture.
