The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu will visit at least one of the Area Councils in the FCT to commission significant infrastructure projects as part of the celebrations marking his second anniversary in office.
Wike made this disclosure while speaking to journalists on Saturday after inspecting ongoing road projects in Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari Area Councils. The inspection focused on various developmental initiatives aimed at improving connectivity within the FCT’s satellite towns.
In the lead-up to the anniversary, President Tinubu has already inaugurated several landmark projects, including the Abuja Metro Rail, the 27km Southern Parkway, and the M18 road infrastructure in Guzape District, which was named after the renowned Nigerian author, Chinua Achebe.
Wike emphasized that the upcoming commissioning event would give FCT residents the opportunity to meet with the President and strengthen their connection with his administration. He assured that the President’s visit would extend beyond just urban areas, stressing that the government is committed to ensuring that satellite towns receive equal attention in terms of development.
“We are working towards having the President visit one of the Area Councils to interact with the people directly. It’s important that he not only focuses on commissioning projects in the city but also ensures that residents in areas like Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari feel his presence,” Wike explained.
The Minister highlighted several ongoing projects in the satellite towns, including the Market Road, Palace Road, and Radio House Road in Gwagwalada, as well as a 15-kilometer road project in Kwali, which is nearing completion. Wike expressed confidence that these projects would be completed and commissioned in time for the President’s anniversary celebrations.
“The President is dedicated to ensuring that development reaches the satellite towns just as it does in the city. The completion of these roads will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time to the city, and improve the quality of life for residents,” Wike added.
In Bwari, where the National Law School is located, Wike highlighted the ongoing development of the A2 road, which is designed to connect the community to the main city. The Minister noted that the contractor has assured the completion of these roads by the second anniversary date.
Wike also commended the quality of work being carried out by the contractors, noting that the projects were adhering to the set standards, ensuring durable and reliable infrastructure.
“The work being done is impressive, and it’s reassuring to see that the contractors are sticking to the quality standards required. These projects will go a long way in improving the living conditions of FCT residents,” Wike concluded.
As President Tinubu prepares to mark his second year in office, his administration is committed to improving infrastructure and promoting development across the FCT, ensuring that both urban and rural areas benefit from the country’s growth.
