A final-year veterinary medicine student at the University of Ibadan, Saheed Ahmed, has earned global recognition after being named the World’s Best Veterinary Student by the World Veterinary Association (WVA).
Ahmed’s remarkable achievement places Nigeria on the global map once again, as he emerges as a beacon of academic excellence, leadership, and community impact in the field of veterinary medicine.
As part of his award, Ahmed will receive a €5,000 cash prize and an all-expense-paid trip to the 2025 World Veterinary Congress in Washington D.C., where he will join leading voices in veterinary science to discuss pressing global issues including One Health, global health systems, and antimicrobial resistance.
A former National President of the International Veterinary Students’ Association (Nigeria), Ahmed is widely respected for his leadership acumen and commitment to advancing veterinary practice across the continent. His advocacy for community-led health solutions and youth mentorship has earned him admiration both at home and abroad.
