As part of Saudi Arabia’s continuous efforts to elevate the experience of pilgrims during Hajj, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah is spearheading a robust training initiative targeting thousands of personnel across key sectors.
The program, which aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, is designed to equip professionals with the skills necessary to effectively support the millions of pilgrims expected to travel to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah for the 2025 Hajj season. These professionals include field staff, healthcare workers, security agents, transportation personnel, and volunteers.
Speaking on the significance of the training, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Khalid Al-Ghamdi, described the institution as a scientific and strategic backbone of Hajj operations. He noted that the training is structured around simulations and field rehearsals that reflect real-life scenarios pilgrims and workers face during Hajj.
“The institute’s mission goes beyond academic teaching, it provides practical, on-the-ground training and conducts seasonal research to improve operational efficiency and safety during Hajj,” Al-Ghamdi said.
The institute also runs extensive field studies during both the Hajj and Umrah seasons. These studies collect real-time data on challenges such as crowd control, transportation flow, health emergencies, and environmental hazards. The insights gained are shared with relevant authorities to support evidence-based planning and implementation for future pilgrimages.
Moreover, Umm Al-Qura University maintains close collaboration with major government agencies, including the Ministry of Interior, Civil Defense, and the Transport Authority, ensuring that all training and academic programs remain in line with national policy and operational needs.
Through this initiative, Saudi Arabia underscores its firm commitment to delivering a safe, spiritually enriching, and seamlessly managed pilgrimage experience. The training of personnel stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s dedication to excellence in hosting one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
