UNN Dismisses Reports of New Vice-Chancellor Appointment

Nsukka, August 2, 2025

The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has firmly denied reports circulating on social media and some online platforms claiming that a new Vice-Chancellor has been appointed for the institution.

In an official statement released by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Mrs. C.N. Nwokike, the institution described the reports as “false, misleading, and without any official backing.” The statement emphasized that the process for appointing a new Vice-Chancellor is guided strictly by the laid-down procedures stipulated in the University Act and overseen by the Governing Council.

“We wish to state categorically that no new Vice-Chancellor has been appointed. The public should disregard any unofficial announcement or media publication suggesting otherwise,” the statement read.

UNN further noted that any formal appointment would be duly communicated through appropriate channels after the conclusion of the statutory selection process.

The denial comes amid rising speculations following the nearing completion of the tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Igwe, whose five-year term is expected to end later this year.

UNN management urged staff, students, alumni, and the general public to refrain from spreading unverified claims and to rely solely on official communications from the university.

The clarification aims to preserve the integrity of the selection process and prevent unnecessary tension or misinformation within the university community.
