We are not in Nigeria for Holidays – Zimbabwe captain

Zimbabwe captain Marshall Munetsi has declared that the Warriors are not in Nigeria for a holiday but to create their own history as they face the Super Eagles in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Despite sitting at the bottom of Group C with just three points from five matches, Munetsi remains confident that his team can pull off an upset against Nigeria.

“I hope you guys know that we are not here for a holiday; we are here to make our own history,” Munetsi stated during Monday’s pre-match press conference.

Zimbabwe winger Tawanda Chirewa, who plays for EFL League One side Huddersfield Town on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, echoed his captain’s sentiments, insisting that the Warriors will not be intimidated by Nigeria’s star-studded squad.

“A lot of their players compete in England and Europe, but I want to go out there and showcase my abilities. Our squad also has plenty of talented players, so there’s no reason to fear Nigeria,” Chirewa said.

The Super Eagles, who revived their World Cup qualifying hopes with a recent win over Rwanda, will be aiming to secure another victory to strengthen their position in the group. However, Zimbabwe, under the guidance of coach Eric Chelle, are determined to defy the odds and reignite their own qualification campaign.
