GENEVA — During the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78), Nigeria’s Dr. Salako has taken a firm stand on the urgent need for reforming domestic health financing to strengthen national healthcare systems.
Addressing global health leaders and policymakers in Geneva, Dr. Salako emphasized that sustainable health financing is critical for improving access to quality healthcare and achieving universal health coverage in Nigeria and across Africa.
“Investing in robust domestic financing mechanisms will reduce dependency on external aid and empower countries to respond effectively to health challenges,” Dr. Salako noted. He highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to diversify funding sources and improve budgetary allocations toward primary healthcare.
The WHA78 gathering, which brings together ministers of health and global partners, provides a vital platform for exchanging best practices and galvanizing support for health sector reforms.
Dr. Salako’s advocacy aligns with Nigeria’s broader health policy agenda, aiming to build resilient health systems capable of withstanding future pandemics and health crises while ensuring equitable service delivery.
The engagement also underscores Nigeria’s commitment to leading health reforms on the continent, reinforcing the country’s role in shaping regional and global health strategies.
