Yobe NBA Branch Swears In New Executive Committee, Charges Leadership on Integrity and Service

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yobe State Branch, on Saturday inaugurated a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years. The swearing-in ceremony, which marked the formal transition of leadership, saw the emergence of a nine-member executive committee charged with promoting the welfare and professional development of legal practitioners within the state.

Outgoing Chairperson, Altine Ibrahim, in her valedictory remarks, reflected on the strides recorded during her tenure. She noted that one of the major legacies of her administration was the conceptualization of the NBA Bar Center Project in Yobe, which has been named in honour of Governor Mai Mala Buni. According to her, the facility is envisioned to offer a befitting workspace for lawyers, complete with a conference hall, a library, and training resources aimed at enhancing legal practice in the state.

While commending the support received from the Yobe State Government, senior legal professionals, and institutional partners, Ibrahim also acknowledged the challenges faced during her leadership. She made particular reference to the invasion of the Chief Magistrate Court in Potiskum, describing it as a deeply unfortunate incident that was roundly condemned by the association.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in chairman, Ahmad Khalifa, assured members of his unwavering commitment to uphold the values of the NBA while executing his duties with fairness, courage, and strict adherence to the association’s code of conduct. The oath of office was administered by Magistrate Abdullahi Saleh Samanja, who also urged the new executives to carry out their responsibilities with honour and accountability.

The newly constituted executive committee includes Ahmad Khalifa as Chairman; Buba Mohammed as Vice Chairman; Abba Mustapha Maina as Secretary; and Ali Suleiman Kadai as Assistant Secretary. Others are Maryam Idrissa Bamai as Treasurer; AbdulMalik Isa as Financial Secretary; Idriss M. Suleiman as Welfare Officer; Muhammad Bukar as Publicity Secretary; and Baba Umar Nuhu as Provost.

The members of the new leadership were reminded of the weight of the oath they had taken and were advised to let integrity, professionalism, and dedication guide them as they serve the Bar and contribute to the strengthening of legal institutions in Yobe State.
