Nigeria’s table tennis star Quadri Aruna will face a stiff challenge against Chinese youngster Feng Yi-Hsin in the round of 32 at the WTT Contender Chennai in India.
Yi-Hsin, ranked 58th in the world, secured his spot in the round of 32 with a convincing 3-0 win over Belgium’s Adrien Rassenfosse in just 20 minutes.
Aruna, ranked 18th in the world, received a bye into the round of 32 and will now face the 22-year-old Chinese player in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
The Nigerian star has played in two WTT events this year, reaching the semi-finals in Doha before crashing out in the round of 32 in Chongqing.
Aruna will be hoping to improve on his second-round finish in 2024 with a strong performance in India, where he will compete for a share of the $275,000 prize pool.
Meanwhile, Nigeria-born Italian national champion John Oyebode failed to make it into the main draw, losing 3-1 to India’s Manush Shah in the final qualifying round.
The WTT Contender Chennai is the fifth WTT event of the year and marks the first staging of the series in the city.
