Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners for one month due to absenteeism from official duties, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to discipline and accountability in governance.
The affected commissioners are Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development). They were suspended after failing to attend the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on Monday without prior permission, an act deemed unacceptable by the governor.
The decision was announced on Tuesday by Jude Okpor, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, during a press briefing on the outcomes of the executive council meeting. Okpor stated that Governor Nwifuru had repeatedly warned public officials about the dangers of absenteeism and laxity in their duties, emphasizing that his administration would not tolerate any display of indiscipline or negligence from government appointees.
During the one-month suspension period, the commissioners will be stripped of all official privileges associated with their positions, serving as a deterrent to others in government.
Governor Nwifuru also used the occasion to issue a stern directive to contractors handling government projects across the state, urging them to expedite work in line with their contractual agreements. He stressed that his administration remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure projects within stipulated timelines, and any contractor found delaying work unnecessarily would face severe consequences.
The governor’s action signals his determination to uphold efficiency, discipline, and accountability in governance, ensuring that every public official discharges their duties diligently in the service of Ebonyi State.
