KADUNA, August 6, 2025 — In a bold move to revive Nigeria’s once-thriving cotton and garment sector, the Federal Government on Tuesday commenced a strategic inspection tour of the Kaduna Textile Hub, signalling renewed efforts to reindustrialize the region and boost local production.
Led by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, the federal delegation visited several textile facilities within the Kaduna Industrial Area, engaging with key stakeholders, garment manufacturers, and cotton producers. The tour forms part of a broader national roadmap aimed at restoring the country’s self-sufficiency in textiles while creating mass employment across the value chain.
Speaking during the tour, Dr. Uzoka-Anite stated that the revitalization of the cotton, textile, and garment (CTG) industry is crucial to the Tinubu administration’s economic diversification plan. She emphasized that the Kaduna hub remains central to Nigeria’s industrial history and holds the potential to become Africa’s textile powerhouse if properly harnessed.
“The government is committed to restoring Kaduna’s legacy as the heart of textile manufacturing in West Africa. We are deploying resources and policy instruments to stimulate cotton farming, upgrade machinery, attract investors, and empower local tailors and designers,” she said.
The initiative is being supported by several federal agencies, including the Bank of Industry, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), and the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC). These agencies are expected to provide funding, export support, and innovation hubs to scale up production.
Industry players expressed optimism about the federal intervention, citing the potential to create over 500,000 jobs and reduce dependence on imported garments if the program is sustained.
The Kaduna Textile Hub Tour is part of a nationwide campaign to reposition Nigeria’s non-oil sectors and accelerate industrial growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
