The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has arrived in Benue State in response to the recent surge in deadly attacks across several communities. The visit marks a significant move by the Nigeria Police Force to restore peace and intensify security operations in the troubled region.
During his arrival, the IGP held a closed-door meeting with top security commanders and state government officials. In a swift move, he ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams to the most affected areas to strengthen on-ground operations and improve intelligence gathering.
“The safety of every Nigerian is paramount, and we are committed to deploying every resource necessary to curb these violent attacks and restore normalcy,” the police chief stated.
The renewed violence in Benue has left scores dead and displaced many, raising national concern and calls for urgent federal intervention. The IGP’s visit comes ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s expected tour of the state as part of wider efforts to address the crisis.
Communities have expressed cautious optimism over the federal government’s recent actions, with hopes that consistent security presence and swift justice will bring lasting peace to the region.
