Iran and Pakistan Sign 12 Bilateral Agreements During President Pezeshkian’s Visit

ISLAMABAD, August 4, 2025 — Iran and Pakistan have formalized a new chapter in their diplomatic and economic relations with the signing of 12 cooperation agreements across various sectors, following a high-level meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani leaders in Islamabad on Sunday.

President Pezeshkian, who arrived on a state visit, held talks with his Pakistani counterpart and Prime Minister aimed at boosting regional cooperation, enhancing cross-border trade, and strengthening cultural and security ties. The visit marks the first by Pezeshkian since his inauguration as President of Iran earlier this year.

The 12 signed documents span critical areas including energy, border management, science and technology, cultural exchange, healthcare, agriculture, and security. Officials from both sides expressed confidence that the agreements would pave the way for deeper bilateral integration and mutual development in the coming years.

During a joint press briefing, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence, regional stability, and joint initiatives against cross-border terrorism. President Pezeshkian lauded Pakistan’s role in fostering regional dialogue and reiterated Iran’s interest in strengthening its eastern corridor through enhanced economic connectivity with Islamabad.

Pakistan’s leadership described the agreements as “strategic breakthroughs” with potential to revitalize long-standing ties that have experienced fluctuations due to regional tensions and economic constraints. The two nations also discussed advancing the stalled Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and expanding trade routes through new customs and transport protocols.

Observers note that the latest diplomatic engagements underscore a renewed commitment to cooperative development and may signal Iran’s strategic recalibration towards strengthening regional partnerships amid shifting geopolitical alignments.

Both governments concluded the summit with a pledge to implement the signed agreements without delay and to sustain high-level consultations to address evolving regional and bilateral challenges.
