The Lagos State Police Command has categorically dismissed recent reports circulating in the media that claimed hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were apprehended within Lagos State. In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police described the publication as entirely false, malicious, and designed to incite unnecessary fear among the public.
According to the police, following the alarming report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the veracity of the claims. The investigation, which involved deploying detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) and other specialised units to the locations mentioned in the reports, yielded no evidence of any Boko Haram arrests or sightings anywhere in Lagos. Leaders and operators within the trailer park communities, which were specifically referenced in the publication, also confirmed to police that there were no such incidents or presence of terrorist elements in their areas.
The police command further criticised the publication, warning that such unfounded reports could create public panic and disrupt the peace and security of Lagos. Residents were strongly advised to disregard the story and continue their daily activities without fear, as there is no credible threat or Boko Haram activity in the state. The police also called on media outlets to verify their information before going to press, cautioning against the spread of fake news that could undermine public confidence and safety.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of all residents, assuring the public that robust security measures remain in place across the state. Lagosians are encouraged to remain vigilant but not to succumb to fear or misinformation, as the command continues to monitor the situation closely and act swiftly against any real threats to public safety.
