LASG Alerts Residents on Flash Floods Caused by Heavy Rainfall

Lagos, Nigeria – June 14, 2025

The Lagos State Government has issued an alert to residents over the likelihood of flash floods across various parts of the state following heavy rainfall in recent days.

In a statement released by the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, residents were urged to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas, especially during and immediately after rainstorms.

The alert follows consistent downpours across the state, which have overwhelmed drainage channels and led to temporary flooding in some communities.

Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, noted that the situation is being closely monitored by emergency response teams and that the state government has intensified efforts to ensure that blocked drainage systems are cleared.

The government advised commuters to plan their journeys carefully, stay informed through official channels, and report any emergencies to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Meanwhile, LASEMA and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have been mobilized to critical flood-prone areas to provide support and mitigate damage.

The state reiterated its commitment to improving infrastructure to handle climate-related challenges and assured residents of its readiness to respond to emergencies.
