Makinde Mourns Olunloyo, Hails His Legacy of Service

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Governor Omololu Olunloyo, who died on Sunday at the age of 90.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, Makinde described the death of Olunloyo as the loss of one of Oyo State’s most intellectual and revered leaders. He also expressed satisfaction that his administration had honoured Olunloyo during his lifetime.

“My joy is that our government immortalised and honoured Pa Olunloyo while he was still alive,” Makinde stated. “He was present to witness the naming of the Ibadan Airport Road and the Leisure Park after him, in recognition of his outstanding service to the state.”

Makinde extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the people of Ibadan, and the entire state, acknowledging the profound impact the late governor had on Oyo State’s early development.

He also expressed sadness that the mathematical genius and former administrator passed away just before his 90th birthday, which would have been celebrated on April 14, 2025.

“In Olunloyo, we have lost another icon—a cerebral and patriotic leader who made significant contributions to the development of our state in its formative years,” the governor added. “This loss is deeply felt, as I was looking forward to Baba’s 90th birthday. However, we must submit to the will of God, who gives and takes life as He pleases.”

Makinde concluded by praying for Olunloyo’s soul to find eternal peace and offering his condolences to the late governor’s family and the people of Oyo State.
