The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong public warning following the emergence of a fraudulent recruitment scheme being circulated across social media and various online platforms. The scam, according to the Ministry, falsely uses the name and signature of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs to lure unsuspecting Nigerians with fake employment opportunities.
The Ministry described the development as “misleading and malicious,” distancing itself from the deceptive announcement and urging members of the public to remain vigilant. In an official statement released in Abuja and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the Ministry, citizens were cautioned against engaging with persons or entities promoting these illegal schemes.
“The Ministry unequivocally disassociates itself from this advertisement and advises the general public to disregard such announcements,” the statement read. “Do not respond to messages requesting payment for job opportunities allegedly connected to the Ministry.”
The Ministry clarified that recruitment into the Nigerian Foreign Service is handled solely by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC). As a matter of policy, the Ministry does not conduct direct employment or solicit money from applicants at any stage of the recruitment process.
This alert comes amid rising cases of employment-related fraud in Nigeria, where job seekers are increasingly targeted by syndicates who exploit their desperation and lack of access to verified government information.
Reaffirming its stance on integrity and transparency, the Ministry stated that it remains committed to fair and credible practices in all its dealings. It also reiterated its dedication to protecting the interests of the Nigerian public, especially in an era where digital misinformation continues to spread unchecked.
The Ministry further advised Nigerians to verify all official communication through legitimate government channels and to report suspicious job offers to the relevant authorities for proper investigation and enforcement action.
This latest warning serves as a reminder of the importance of digital literacy and vigilance in an environment where scammers are continuously evolving in their tactics.
