The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has underscored the importance of loyalty among personnel as a cornerstone for transforming the Nigerian Army. He described loyalty as a crucial catalyst in building a stronger, more efficient military force.
General Oluyede made this assertion on Sunday, June 29, 2025, during the interdenominational church service held at All Saints Military Church (Protestant), Army Headquarters Garrison, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja. The event formed part of activities commemorating this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025.
Reflecting on the significance of NADCEL, the COAS said it provides an opportunity for introspection on the sacrifices and resilience of officers and soldiers in their constitutional duties. He noted that the celebration not only honours the Army’s enduring legacy but also reaffirms its unyielding patriotism and service across various operational theatres.
Despite daunting challenges, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering resolve to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty, protect its territorial integrity, and uphold the rights of citizens. He stressed the Army’s continuous efforts to strengthen operational capacity through rigorous training and the acquisition of modern combat resources.
General Oluyede also paid tribute to fallen heroes, lauding their ultimate sacrifice for national peace and unity. He called on serving troops to remain courageous and committed in the face of adversity.
While expressing appreciation for the consistent support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he reiterated the Army’s loyalty to the Nigerian Constitution, the Federal Government, and the citizens. He further extended gratitude to the National Assembly, the Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, fellow Service Chiefs, and heads of security agencies for their collaborative efforts in advancing the military’s mission.
Earlier in the service, the Acting Director of Chaplain Services (Protestant), Lieutenant Colonel Martins Amuluche, encouraged troops to embody loyalty not just in service but also in moral conduct, stressing that faithful service to the nation and God elevates discipline and spiritual awareness.
The solemn yet uplifting event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, his wife Mrs. Oghogho Musa (President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, DEPOWA), senior officers (serving and retired), and members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA).
A major highlight of the occasion was a special thanksgiving session in honour of the gallant service of personnel and the continued unity of the Nigerian Army.
