Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has been fined a total of N5 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following a security breach that resulted in the assault of the Ikorodu City contingent and damage to their bus. Additionally, the Ibadan-based club has been ordered to close the Lekan Salami Stadium to fans for the remainder of the season.
The ruling came after a disciplinary panel convened on Wednesday to address the incidents that occurred at the conclusion of the Matchday 32 fixture between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City on April 6, 2025. The panel found Shooting Stars guilty on three counts: failure to provide adequate security, failure to maintain proper conduct of their supporters, and allowing their fans to throw objects onto the field and toward match officials.
Shooting Stars was fined N1 million for not ensuring sufficient security, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas and harass match officials. The second charge, related to the misconduct of their supporters, led to a fine of N1 million for failing to control fans, resulting in the assault on Ikorodu City supporters. A third fine of N1 million was imposed for the failure to control fans who threw objects onto the field during the match.
In addition to these fines, the disciplinary panel ruled that Shooting Stars must pay N2 million for damages caused to the Ikorodu City bus during the incident. This brings the total amount payable to N5 million.
The panel also issued a directive that no fans will be allowed entry to the Lekan Salami Stadium for the rest of the season. The closure of the stadium to fans is a response to the violent and unruly behavior displayed by the club’s supporters during the match.
Shooting Stars has been given 48 hours to accept the ruling or decide whether to appeal the decision, as per Rule C26 of the NPFL regulations. The club now faces the task of deciding whether to challenge the penalties or comply with the disciplinary measures imposed.
