NRC Commences Recovery Operations Following Abuja–Kaduna Train Accident

August 28, 2025 — The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has launched recovery operations after a train derailed on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, one of the country’s busiest rail routes.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, disrupted services on the line, leaving many passengers stranded. While details of the cause are still under investigation, NRC officials confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, though some passengers sustained minor injuries.

According to the Corporation, technical teams have been deployed to the accident site to clear the tracks, recover affected coaches, and restore full service as quickly as possible. Emergency response teams were also mobilized to provide immediate assistance to passengers and ensure their safe evacuation.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail line, inaugurated in 2016, has become a vital means of transportation for thousands of Nigerians, providing a safer and faster alternative to the Abuja–Kaduna highway, which has long been plagued by insecurity.

The NRC assured passengers that safety remains a top priority, adding that preventive measures and enhanced maintenance protocols will be strengthened to avoid a recurrence.
