Osogbo Court Remands Suspected Fake Lawyer Over ₦18.5m Property Fraud

Osogbo, Osun State – September 11, 2025

A Magistrate Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the remand of Oruhu Emmanuel Odey at the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly impersonating a lawyer and defrauding a medical practitioner of ₦18.5 million in a property transaction.
Prosecutors told the court that between December 2020 and May 2021, Odey posed as a lawyer to deceive Dr. Olujuwon Philips Towoju into paying for two houses at Oroki Estate, Osogbo. He is also accused of forging a Nigerian Bar Association stamp and seal on a petition to the police, contrary to Section 467 of the Criminal Code.
Odey, who appeared without legal representation, pleaded not guilty but admitted he is a law student at Benue State University. Members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Osogbo Branch, were present as nominal complainants.
Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered his remand and adjourned the case until October 21, 2025, for mention.
