Storm Wreaks Havoc on Ogun School, Claims Student’s Life, Injures Several –

A violent rainstorm on Wednesday caused severe damage to classrooms at Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School, Ilase, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, leading to the tragic death of a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School Three student, Timothy Amosun.

The storm also left five other students injured, along with two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child.

Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Governor Abiodun described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the government would cover the medical expenses of the injured victims.

The governor also directed relevant agencies to transfer those in critical condition to specialist hospitals within and outside Ogun State to ensure they receive the best medical care.

“The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has sympathized with the victims of the rainstorm that struck Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School, Ilase, in Ipokia Local Government.

“A 14-year-old student, Timothy Amosun, lost his life, while five students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her infant sustained injuries.

“The governor described the event as a devastating loss and prayed for strength for the grieving family. He also assured that the state government would take full responsibility for the medical treatment of the injured,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun directed the Commissioner for Education to visit the affected families and assess the damage to the school, with plans to initiate reconstruction efforts promptly.
