FG Unveils New Farmers’ Credit and Incentive Scheme to Boost Affordable Food Supplies”

The Federal Government has unveiled a sweeping initiative to ramp up local food production by extending critical credits and incentives to farmers nationwide. Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari outlined that these measures are already helping to push food inflation downward, restoring hope to households beleaguered by soaring prices.
During a briefing in Abuja, Kyari spotlighted the multifaceted intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasising that subsidised inputs—ranging from seeds and fertilisers to mechanised equipment—are easing the burden on farmers, improving yields, and reducing the final cost of food on Nigerian tables

Highlighting the rapid roll-out of over 2.1 million bags of free fertiliser through the Central Bank and Ministry collaborations, Kyari described it as a “wonderful gift” that is directly supporting farmers’ growing capacity and helping to calm food inflation

Additionally, the government has begun distributing tractors and other mechanised tools—255 tractors have already been delivered, each paired with vital implements like ploughs and sprayers. These tools, together with overhaul plans for the Bank of Agriculture, are designed to give farmers reliable access to credit, tools, and technical services

Kyari further underscored that such incentives are not mere giveaways but deliberate investments to dismantle barriers—bringing youth and women into the fold, modernising farming practices, and expanding cultivation into dry-season agriculture. He noted significant progress through the Dry Season Farming and National Agricultural Growth Scheme, powered by African Development Bank–backed inputs and digital transparency via NIN-linked farmer registration

This virtuous cycle of support has already started to reflect in market data: according to the National Bureau of Statistics, consumer price index recalibrations have revealed meaningful declines in both headline and food inflation—bringing a much-needed breather for households nationwide

In essence, the Federal Government’s strategic alignment of financing, mechanisation, modern inputs, and data-driven targeting is generating tangible progress. By bolstering farmer capacity, streamlining support, and injecting policy momentum, these developments are beginning to tilt the scales toward better food availability, affordability, and ultimately, economic resilience for Nigerians.
