LG Poll: Voting Commences at Gbajabiamila’s Polling Unit in Surulere

Lagos, July 12, 2025 — Voting has officially begun at the polling unit of the Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, located in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State, as the local government elections get underway across the state.

Election officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived early at the polling unit with all necessary materials, setting the stage for a smooth voting process. Voters were seen forming queues, undergoing accreditation, and casting their ballots in a calm and orderly manner.

Security personnel, including police officers and civil defence officials, were on ground to maintain order and ensure the safety of voters and election materials.

Gbajabiamila’s polling unit has historically attracted public attention during election seasons, and this year’s local government polls are no exception, with both local observers and community leaders monitoring proceedings closely.

The exercise is part of the broader election taking place across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, aimed at electing new council chairmen and councillors.

The voting process is expected to last until 3:00 p.m., in line with LASIEC’s guidelines, after which collation of results will commence.

Officials have urged voters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the process, while appealing for increased turnout to deepen grassroots participation in governance.
