The Ekiti State Government has announced that the maiden Ekiti International Theatre Festival (EITF) will take place from August 20 to 25, 2025, at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre, Ado-Ekiti, in partnership with the Duke of Shomolu Foundation.
Festival Director Prof. Rasaki Ojo-Bakare, a former Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, said the initiative aims to identify young talents, promote tourism, and strengthen Ekiti’s global cultural profile. The programme will feature command performances on historic Nigerian figures, competitive productions by theatre groups from the state’s 16 local government areas, and a visit to the Ikogosi Warm Springs on August 24.
Organisers have projected attendance between 5,000 and 50,000 visitors, though these figures remain estimates and are yet to be independently verified.
Ojo-Bakare urged residents to support the festival by attending events and extending hospitality to visitors, noting that the project is part of efforts to integrate the creative arts into Ekiti’s economic development strategy.
