In a moment of national pride and regional celebration, Team Checkup from Anambra State has emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 National Girls in ICT Competition. The annual contest, which aims to inspire and empower young Nigerian girls to pursue careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), was organized by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (@FMCIDENigeria), with strong support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Team Checkup’s innovative project, which reportedly focused on digital health solutions, impressed judges with its creativity, relevance, and potential for real-world impact. Competing against brilliant all-female teams from across Nigeria, the Anambra girls stood out for their depth of research, presentation skills, and mastery of digital tools.
The Girls in ICT initiative is part of a broader global movement backed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), with Nigeria actively participating to bridge the gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
At the final event held in Abuja, dignitaries from the ICT sector, education stakeholders, and international development partners gathered to witness the brilliance of Nigeria’s next generation of female tech leaders. KOICA, a long-term development partner in Nigeria’s digital sector, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting girls’ digital literacy and empowerment through similar collaborations.

Speaking at the award ceremony, representatives of the Federal Ministry commended all participating students for their outstanding efforts, describing them as “future innovators of Nigeria’s digital economy.” They emphasized that initiatives like the Girls in ICT Competition are crucial in building inclusive digital talent pipelines and promoting gender equity in technology.
Team Checkup’s victory not only brings honour to Anambra State but also highlights the growing tech potential within Nigerian schools when girls are given equal access and opportunity. Their success story is expected to inspire thousands of young Nigerian girls to pursue careers in tech and innovation.
As Nigeria continues to invest in digital transformation, the triumph of Team Checkup signals that the future of ICT is not only bright—but boldly female.
